Next on Just One More Thing: “Columbo Likes the Nightlife”

For our forty-first show, we invite Zack Handlen (The AV Club) back to talk about Columbo’s last one, “Columbo Likes the Nightlife.” This 2003 final bow has Crystal Method songs, actors from future hits Lost and The Sopranos, and Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as the killer! The episode is available on DVD.

Next on Just One More Thing: “Old Fashioned Murder”

From season six comes “Old Fashioned Murder,” in which Joyce Van Patten resorts to -cides both fratri- and homi- when her brother threatens to unload the family museum to which she’s devoted her entire life. Writer Jaime Fountaine joins Jon and RJ to discuss. The episode is available on DVD and Netflix Instant, if you’d like to catch it beforehand.

Next on Just One More Thing: “Ashes to Ashes”

Season thirteen’s “Ashes to Ashes” sees Patrick McGoohan as a Hollywood mortician with several casketsful of sleazy secrets who murders gossip columnist Rue McClanahan when she threatens to crack one of the worst ones open. It’s the last time Falk and McGoohan (who also directs!) meet as Columbo and killer. Molly Eichel (The AV Club, Philadelphia Inquirer) returns to discuss. The episode is available on DVD.

Next on Just One More Thing: “Forgotten Lady”

“Forgotten Lady,” the season five premiere,  sees Janet Leigh as former song and dance star Janet Wheeler. When her husband vetoes the funding of her comeback, she murders him and makes it look like a suicide. Kevin Klawitter (who recently co-directed a stage production of “Prescription Murder”!) joins Jon and RJ to talk about the episode. This one is on Netflix instant, you may want to see it first, if you haven’t.

Next on Just One More Thing: “Requiem for a Falling Star”

Tell the landscaper to get away from that fountain- our next one is Season Two’s “Requiem for a Falling Star.” Past guest Nate Patrin (Vice sports) returns to talk about has-been Anne Baxter becoming a murder-been (?). It’s available on Netflix instant and the DVDs, if you want to catch it before the podcast.

Next on Just One More Thing: “An Exercise in Fatality”

Wipe off those machines when you’re done, because we’re going to talk about season four’s “An Exercise in Fatality.” Robert Conrad is a gym magnate/fitness flim-flam man who resorts to murder when someone’s about to expose his whole operation. Critic Phil Dyess-Nugent will be helping Jon and RJ maintain quality.

Next on Just One More Thing: “Agenda for Murder”

After a break, we are back. This time, it’s still a 90s episode, but it’s a McGoohan! Season nine’s “Agenda for Murder,” which is directed by and stars Patrick McGoohan (Double-threat! Okay, triple-threat, if you count killing a guy). Chris Sims and Matt Wilson will join Jon and RJ on the discussion. The episode is available on DVD (or other wink-wink means) if you’d like to check it out beforehand.

Next on Just One More Thing: “Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo”

Staying in the 90s, with season ten’s “Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo,” which the title kind of gives away, in terms of the big story at its core. Along for the ride will be Stevie VanBronkhorst (@spoolses). This one’s only on the DVDs or the occasional TV broadcast, so keep those eyes peeled.
