That’s Very Good. The Magician Did It.

Yes, we talked about “Now You See Him” way back on our seventh show, but we felt it was worth revisiting with a more, shall we say, open-minded guest. The episode features Jack Cassidy creeping it up as a creep magician/ex-Nazi SS officer who kills the creep magic club owner who’s blackmailing him over his evil past. Also- Columbo has a new coat! Robert Loggia’s in charge of the kitchen! There’s a hidden Hollywood legend! Lots of other stuff we never got to when we tried talking about the episode with that first guy! Since it’s the world of magic illusion, we brought back our resident expert, Leigh Beadon (techdirt.com), to discuss.

And we’re back to the later episodes, for season eight’s “Columbo Goes to the Guillotine,” which does a fair job of debunking the whole psychic/ESP nonsense. Sadly, it cannot debunk the fact that sharp blades will chop off heads. That’s just real. Joining us to discuss the episode and its possible real-life background is Leigh Beadon (techdirt.com), who’s well-versed in the mentalism and magic game. If you guessed that this is a good episode of the podcast, what are you, The Amazing Kreskin or something?

Also please note- we will be taking a brief hiatus after this one.

Say, what happens when someone hates the very premise of a show, but then is booked on a podcast about that specific show? Let’s find out! Aaron Bleyaert (Conan, RJ and Bley Suck at Girls) joins Jon and RJ to talk about “Now You See Him…,” which features Columbo repeat offender Jack Cassidy as a murderous magician whose Nazi past is discovered. Will Lt. Columbo be able to match wits with someone to who whom illusion and subterfuge are as essential as water and air? Will we even get through 20 minutes of the show? What of issues of class? Thought experiments? Will we be able to change Aaron’s mind about Columbo? It’s kind of one of those you-have-to-listen-and-find-out-for-yourself deals.
