Season thirteen’s “Ashes to Ashes” sees Patrick McGoohan as a Hollywood mortician with several casketsful of sleazy secrets who murders gossip columnist Rue McClanahan when she threatens to crack one of the worst ones open. It’s the last time Falk and McGoohan (who also directs!) meet as Columbo and killer. Molly Eichel (The AV Club, Philadelphia Inquirer) returns to discuss. The episode is available on DVD.

Ahhh, been far too long! Looking forward to it!
NIce! A sort of Columbo meets the Golden Girls!
Have not watched that episode in a long time. Really “dug” it. Hope I can “bury” any hard feelings I have about there not being a podcast in a while. I have a “burning” desire to hear the podcast once it is released. Sorry – I will stop now.
OK I admit I was getting pissed off that you kept doing 90s episodes, but this was a gem. The clip played in the promo makes clear that McGoohan and Falk are just clearly having fun with it at this point with no fucks given. OMG.
What a bizarre episode. Plot, structure, clues, mistakes, most of the acting (looking at you Kellerman) – all solid. But the little things were sooo odd. How does a mortician score the hot babes? Is that really how morticians move bodies around? Would someone please shoot the piano player.
