Ex-Candidate Ron Paul Dis-invited

City Desk IconFormer presidential candidate Ron Paul was scheduled to give a speech this Wednesday at Watson University for several student political science classes, but the event has been canceled.

Watson Students for Poli-Sci (WSPS) had booked the Congressman (R-TX) to come and speak back when he was still in the race, but hoped that his exit from the campaign could still serve as fodder for an instructive talk. The problem came last week when the group began to circulate a last round of press materials promoting the campus event. In the press release, WSPS publicity committee head Ian Sandborn (class of ’09), made a reference to “Rep. Ron Paul’s failed presidential bid.”

Once the release began to be circulated, that sentence was all it took for scores of Ron Paul supporters to begin a deluge of phone calls and emails to the Watson University Student Affairs office, Student Activity Board, Administration Office and to Sandborn’s apartment. Threats of protests, threats of contacting university donors and even threats of death resulted. At one point, even confused administrators over at the Community College were contacted about the release.

After consideration by administrators and the WSPS, Rep. Paul’s invitation was rescinded, citing safety concerns and what was termed a “lack of educational value at this point.”

In Sunday’s Journal-Clarion, Ian Sandborn said- “Someone called my parents, telling them they raised a failure. I didn’t really care at first, but that was too much. They’re insane. No wonder they call them ‘Paultards,'” he said, using a popular colloquialism for Rep. Paul’s often overly fervent supporters.

Libertarian mayoral candidate Lewis Armstrong was also quoted in the article lamenting the dis-invitation, as the city really has not had “a good conversation about the gold standard in years.”

How dare you make fun of a man as great as Rno Paul!

This could have been avoided if the university hadn’t put out the FALSE information that Ron Paul is no longer a candidate. He is STILL very much in the race, and is the only candidate that is SOLVENT. I’d say this is a success not a failure, when you look at the other candidates. They have also failed to unite the party and neither of them will win in the general as a result.

I don’t know what is sad about discussing the failing dollar. Perhaps you like paying the inflation tax to private bankers but I don’t. They never get poor, only we do.

People must be instructed on the perfidy of the FedRes as well as the paper money fiasco.

Ron Paul is the only person talking about loss of sovereignty as well.

Yes I agree, your mother raised a failure…. in you.

He is not a former presidential candidate and I assume this is a piece of bad satire because it certainly isn’t journalism.

Obviously both parties were wrong at some point.

That said, I think the worst, and most telling part of the article is when he used the phrase “Paultard.” I would appreciate a definition of this compound word. I am sure it comes from a very sensistive and caring person. His sensitivity seems to mirror his journalistic abilities and integrity.

Ron Paul has not withdrawn from the presidential campaign. What were the sources for this article?

If you REALLY want something educational you’d better get your heads examined. Ron Paul can teach your entire student body more in 1 hour than they learn in 4 years of study.

  8. February 17, 2008 at 6:25 pm

By the way… He’s not out of any race by any means. Ron Paul and the Revolution are on their way to the White House. Get your facts straight.

  9. February 17, 2008 at 6:30 pm

What every University should do is recognize every candidate. Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green Party, and any other independent party not mentioned. Display them in a centralized are within the campus and also have people represent them with a speech on why they should vote for them. Do a knowbeforeyouvote.com type of chart and then let the students photocopy their student IDs and drop them in what ever candidates ballot box for a accurate campus vote.

Also have accurate reporting on candidates. Instead of writing biased material, tell us some positive information. “Ron Paul had to cancel due to recent complication but will still continue his Presidential candidacy.” Also mention “Note that Ron Paul has received more donation from military personnel than any other candidate from all parties. More than Hillary and Obama, COMBINED!”
Are you guys saying that our military falls under the “Paultards?”

What planet have you been on?
Here on Earth, not only is Ron Paul still running but his support is strong and dedicated.

I share Jeff’s & NH’s sentiments, and second Nodatilu’s request for your sources.

    February 17, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Wow! I don’t think I have seen a worse article. You blew the facts in the headline! Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican running. The “frontrunner” introduces bills with Kennedy to help out Mexico (Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act) which fits right in with the Security and Prosperity Partnership…sure..we can’t help our own citizens, but lets team up with Mexican and Canadian government and make a better world for all. We have the cash..right? (Sec. 502). Way to pick em’ GOP.

  16. February 17, 2008 at 8:33 pm

Links, please? “Local Accounts” doesn’t really satisfy. Ron Paul’s website would surely mention a drop out. The only information on it is that he has 6 million dollars so far this quarter… That’s pretty strong for someone you claim has ‘dropped out’.

Give us a little credit, we’re not stupid. We’d like some links or other proof of your sources’ credibility.

    Thank you.

  17. February 17, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Is this satire? I would think so since you bolded the false parts. But I don’t see it marked as satire…

  18. February 17, 2008 at 8:42 pm

Now there is an informative answer. ‘Local accounts’.

If you can’t tell, I’m being incredibly sarcastic. You might as well have said “My mommy said so.”

If you don’t believe us, look on CNN.com. They still show Ron Paul in the race, because he is.

Lack of educational value? That’s the worst excuse I’ve ever heard — Ron Paul could teach most Americans more about freedom, liberty, the Constitution, and the economy than they would ever know otherwise.

  20. February 18, 2008 at 7:04 am

So the entire political science department of Watson University thinks Paul has dropped out. Interesting. I haven’t seen a single source till now, and I’m sure the big media would have jumped on that story if it were true. McCain still needs about 400 delegates to secure an unbrokered convention. And even if he does secure the nomination, Paul’s delegates will have a big influence on the Republican platform. That alone is worth the visit. I definitely won’t recommend Watson U to my son.

“He did not seem to be joking.”
Well, you’ve clearly demonstrated your economic ignorance as well as your poor journalism. Here’s a challenge for you. Let’s see if you can even explain what the gold standard is, what the benefits of it could be, and why it so clearly to you is a joke.

As Dean of Watson University, I want to make it clear that the safety of our students comes first and foremost. I’m certain that three or four of Ron Paul’s supporters are stable, well-balanced individuals who have only played “World of Warcraft” four or five times. However, I must keep the safety of my students at the top of my priority list, so I hope that John Rodgers, Barry McShane, Lauren O’Toole and Bob Basara — the four sane Ron Paul supporters on the planet — will understand my decision.

    Sincerely,

    Dean Watson

Typical Philadelphia media, can’t get their story straight, and perpetually crabby to boot. Next you’ll be stating McNabb is a safety and Lenny Dykstra runs a car wash in Corona CA (Oh, wait that last one is actually true!).

The Mabel Tripp Gardens Ladies Tea Society would also like to add that our bake sale fundraiser, scheduled for 8 am so as to coincide with the pedestrian rush hour, also known as the Ron Paul Wake N’ Bake, has been cancelled. 40 pounds of aromatic whole bean Sumatra had been purchased for the Occasion. Not one supporter will be able to wake up and smell the coffee.

As a libertarian and an alumni for Watson U, I am ashamed to see that my old Alma mater has caved into pressures from the Zionists and the Neocons. What’s the matter, Sandborn? Scared that some kids might hear the truth about your monopoly money and your North American Union? Scared that kids might remember a little document called the constitution, and start standing up for themselves? Scared that kids might start realizing that the country is robbing them blind in the form of taxation? You disgust me.

The next time that Watson University sends me a letter asking me to donate money, I plan to wipe that letter with my ass and sending it back to them postage due. It’s the least that I can do after watching how these collectivist sheep treat the lone defender of the American constitution and a modern founding father. I hope you’re all happy when Clintobama McRomney turns this country to shit, and you’re all going to be pissing and moaning about how you dis-invited the one man who could have stopped it. Don’t blame me, I voted for Ron Paul.

What the heck is Watson University?

Paultards? Is that really the best they could come up with? Wow. Pretty pathetic. I’d suggest that the lameness of that term says more about our opponents’ intelligence than ours, eh?

The new deal probably created poverty, because ron paul said that poverty wasent that much of a problem prior to 1935. This is because the families would take care of the poor. The Federal reserve created every single economic panic includeing the great depression. It even created Inflation dureing the 70s and this is worst then a economic panic.
