As a three time winner of the prize for largest gourd, I have noticed a disturbing trend in the use of non-organic stimulants in gourd growth. Where is this taking us? Do we really want freakishly large and unnaturally gnarled gourds taking over this family-friendly competition. Gourd sabotage is on the rise, the colors and corrugations of gourd contest entries are--there's no other way to put it--unsightly. It's time to put family values back in the Gourd Festival.
